Celebrating Georgia Linemen Day: Honoring the Heroes Who Keep Our Lights On

On March 11, 2025, Senator John F. Kennedy, representing Senate District 18, presented a Resolution officially declaring March 11 as “Georgia Linemen Day.” This recognition shines a spotlight on the critical work of Georgia’s Linemen—those dedicated men and women who work around the clock to ensure we have the power and connectivity that modern life demands.
Honoring the Brave Men and Women Who Power Georgia
Linemen are often the unseen heroes behind the hum of our daily lives. They work in hazardous, high-risk environments, climb poles in severe weather, and repair downed lines after devastating storms. They are the first responders to widespread outages, racing against time to restore power and keep our communities safe.
The Resolution read on the Senate floor highlights the extraordinary commitment and bravery of Georgia’s Linemen, especially in times of crisis. An example noted in the Resolution is the incredible response during Hurricane Helene when over 8,000 Linemen from across the state braved treacherous conditions and worked grueling 18-hour shifts to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses.
Their courage and resilience in the face of danger ensured that critical services—like hospitals, emergency response centers, and water systems—could continue to operate. Their efforts not only restored essential services but also restored hope and a sense of normalcy to affected communities.
Recognizing Linemen’s Daily Dedication
While the dramatic moments of hurricane response are awe-inspiring, it is equally important to recognize the daily dedication of Linemen who maintain Georgia’s electrical infrastructure. Rain or shine, day or night, Linemen respond to outages, perform maintenance, and implement upgrades to keep the grid strong and resilient—ensuring that Georgia’s homes, schools, and businesses can rely on safe and dependable power.
We are incredibly proud to announce that two outstanding members of our ECG family, James Adams and Charlie Purcell, were honored as part of this statewide recognition.
Please join us in congratulating James and Charlie for this well-deserved honor and in celebrating Georgia Linemen Day as a tribute to all those who serve on the front lines to keep our communities powered and safe.
