The 2022 ECG Annual Meeting Recap

The 2022 ECG Annual Meeting took place at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, in Greensboro, GA, on December 5-6. In addition to the beautiful atmosphere, the meeting agenda was perfectly suited for attendees looking for insight into industry topics. Walter West, ECG President & CEO, opened the meeting with a State of the Organization Address. He informed members and stakeholders on the challenges public power utilities face involving Cryptocurrency, Legislative & Regulatory, and electric revenues, such as volatile market prices, the changing patterns of customer buying, and the pressure on coal power plants. Given that the overarching theme of ECG is to support public power communities by providing services that maximize utility performance, Walter not only addressed the challenges but the work ECG has done in the areas through its various services. Concluding the address, Walter discussed the Board initiative to finalize whether ECG will maintain its current two training facilities or combine them to have one centrally located facility.

The day-and-a-half meeting was filled with presentations from industry experts. The day-and-a-half meeting was filled with presentations from industry experts. The presenters spoke on topics covering economics, government, workforce development, the supply chain, and Vogtle 3 and 4 updates. The engaged audience participated in Q&A after every presentation and even had volunteers for demonstrations. ECG members and stakeholders were strategically placed in settings to network and build business relations through group settings, food, and entertainment. As chatter filled the dining rooms and hallways with introductions, one-on-one meetings, discussions, and laughter, it was evidence of a successful meeting; mission accomplished. Additionally, one could say that this year’s meeting also served as a celebration of a successful year with several ECG members experiencing economic growth and opportunities despite economic challenges.

The Board Election held at the end of day one resulted in welcoming back incumbent Rod Prince, the City of Cairo, and two new Board Members, Derek Hampton, City of Cartersville, and Huston Gillis, City of Lawrenceville. We are excited about the upcoming year, ECG’s direction all that lies ahead.
