Walmart and Electric Cities of Georgia, Inc. Members Solidify Public Power Solar Initiative in Georgia

ECG, ECG Member Communities and Walmart Corporate Representatives

Walmart and 14 Electric Cities of Georgia Members signed a Renewable Energy Customer Agreement (RECA) designed to supply 26 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale solar power guided by Walmart’s renewable energy strategies. John Giles, ECG’s President, and CEO personally thanked each member’s leadership for participating in this initiative to bring Solar Power generation to our Public Power Members in Georgia. In doing so, it facilitated the environmental sustainability goals of Walmart (our corporate partner).

This initiative consisted of collaboration, courage, and foresight on behalf of the 14 Public Power utilities, including Albany, Cairo, Calhoun, Camilla, Crisp County, Douglas, East Point, Forsyth, Griffin, LaGrange, Marietta, Moultrie, Newnan, and Thomasville. These utilities diversified their portfolio and enhanced their competitive advantages by acquiring solar as a renewable energy source. Walter West, SVP and COO of ECG, said, “This solar initiative was so exciting to work on with all parties. I want to compliment the Walmart staff, our ECG members, and the ECG and MEAG staff for their diligence and focus on this solar effort’s completion. There were dozens of documents and agreements that needed approval from all parties to complete this project. The amount of analytics and communications involved was no small undertaking. With all parties focused on the importance of renewable energy resources, we made it to the finish line. Great job by all.” Click here to read the Walmart and ECG Public Power Solar Initiative Press Release
