Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
ECG is distributing this information to its Members in support of the efforts by the American Public Power Association (APPA) to assist public power communities suffering from energy poverty.
APPA is asking its members to consider signing a letter in support of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The letter is the annual “All Parties” letter organized by the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC). Signatories are listed by the organization, not by the individual, but individual contact information must be provided to sign. In addition, NEUAC is also holding a virtual “Fly-In” on February 16 and February 23. More information about both can be found in the email from NEUAC below.
Take Action Now!
STEP ONE: Sign the Open Letter to Congress in support of LIHEAP
NEUAC invites all interested organizations to join us in urging Congress to support FY23 funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, by signing an all-parties letter in support of the program.
LIHEAP is used in communities across the country to reduce the energy burden and stabilize families. LIHEAP provides bill assistance, weatherizes homes, provides emergency HVAC repair and replacement, and promotes energy efficiency.
This letter will only be open for a brief time in order to reach policymakers with this urgent call to action in time for upcoming budget discussions. Make your voice heard and join us in supporting LIHEAP!
STEP TWO: Register for LIHEAP Action Day
LIHEAP Action Day will be carried out virtually on February 16 (training and state team planning sessions) and February 23 (LIHEAP Action Day meetings with Congress). Deadline to register: January 21, 2022.
Our two-day program will allow time for effective advocacy training, policy updates, and networking with your state and regional teams, in addition to virtual meetings with policymakers on the hill.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to educate policymakers on the impact of LIHEAP and its role in helping to ensure safe, reliable access to utilities for those most in need.
